The six exams in the program
Every one is invigilated and every one has to be passed in sequence before the next part of the program opens up.
Exam 1: Real Estate Essentials, two hours
Exam 2: Residential Real Estate Transactions, three hours
Exam 3: Additional Residential Transactions, three hours
Simulation Exam 1: residential, three hours
Exam 4: Commercial Real Estate Transactions, three hours
Simulation Exam 2: commercial, three hours
That is seventeen hours of invigilated examination across the pre registration phase, sat one at a time with everything after each one waiting on the result. Sequence is what makes a single failure expensive: it does not just cost you that exam, it holds up every course behind it.
Why people fail, and it is usually not the material
We see the same four patterns over and over. Every one of them belongs to a student who genuinely knew the content.
- Reading a question for its topic rather than for the specific obligation it is asking about
- Revising evenly across the modules when the exam weights them very unevenly
- Recognising the material on the page but never having practised producing an answer against a clock
- Losing the last section of a three hour paper to time spent agonising over the middle of it

Questions about exam prep
What kind of questions are on the Ontario real estate exam?
They are theory questions built on the course material, and they test application rather than recall. A typical one puts you in a situation and asks what you are obliged to do, or what the correct next step is.
That is why memorising definitions does not carry you. You can know exactly what a term means and still choose the wrong answer, because the question is about what you must do rather than what something is called.
I failed an exam. What should I do differently?
Resist the urge to simply read the whole course again. It feels productive and it usually changes nothing, because rereading addresses knowledge and most failures are not knowledge problems.
Start by working out what actually went wrong. Did you run out of time, misread what was being asked, or genuinely not know it? Those three have completely different fixes, and picking the wrong one is how people fail twice.
Can I book exam prep on its own?
Yes. Exam prep is the one thing here you can take without any course tutoring at all, and plenty of students do exactly that.
It suits somebody who has worked through the material on their own and wants a sharp block of practice before a sitting, and it suits anybody rebuilding after a failure.
How many practice questions should I do?
Fewer than most people assume, done properly. A hundred questions where you understand why every wrong option was wrong beats five hundred that you mark and move past.
What matters far more than volume is doing a decent block of them under real time pressure, because time is the variable most people never rehearse.
When should I book the exam itself?
Book it before you feel ready. A date in the calendar is the single most reliable thing for turning open ended study into finished study, and seats at convenient times do go.
Waiting until you feel ready is how a course window quietly closes with the exam still unbooked.
